Stage Left

When I've spent too long
Exploring her reflecting eyes,
She moves as if through jelly,
Floods of maple syrup,

Inching past me in minutes
Stretched thinly,
Threatening to tear.

She leaves as if escaping,
Lacking pause,
Or interruption,
A regret,
Or sentiment.

I always give myself
To the clueless,
Careless,
Kind yet unaffected.

I long to see somebody
Examining me,
Studying my exiting.
